Law Practice Tip #291

November 26, 2012

Leave room on your daily "to do" list for unexpected matters

When planning your day, don't fill it with 8 hours of known work. Leave room for the stuff you don't yet know about, knowing that you always have unexpected matters show up daily.

In a busy law practice, it's a given that there are daily unexpected conversations, emails, projects, new clients, and demands from existing clients and others. Leave plenty of room in your schedule to handle these matters so you don't feel overwhelmed when they show up. If you have more time at the end of your day because not as much unexpected stuff showed up Great! start on tomorrow's "to do" list today.

How much time do you need to carve out for the unexpected each day?
