Really use your contact management data system to help you make referrals

In order to give referrals, you need to have the resources and a system from which to draw your referrals. Set up — and really use — a contact management system to help you match people.

Creating and sustaining your contact management data includes:

  • Creating a card in your chosen data management system for everyone you meet, with appropriate information about what they do and who their ideal client is.
  • When you meet people (especially at networking events) ask questions to learn what they are looking for in the way of new clients.
  • Add that info to your contact management system with enough detail to help you find them easily in the future using your search function.
  • Always carve out time after networking events and meetings to add the information you learn about the people you meet to your contact management system.
  • When someone asks for a referral, do a search of your contact management data system and make the referral providing useful details and contact info from your system.

What needs to happen for your contact management referral resource system help you easily make referrals?
